Differents points of view

The Olympics games are something that everybody likes, just for holding their teams or for seeing matches or competitions on TV. But this opinion changes if the Olympics games are going to be celebrated in your hometown. There are very different opinions. You can divide the people in the ones that want to celebrate the Olympic games in their home town and the ones that no.
The ones who would like to celebrate the Olympics games in their home town can be for many reasons. Maybe it is because they work at a hotel and they would win much money if the Olympics games celebrated in their home town. Or because they would win more money with their jobs that in a normal month. There are the ones that just want the Olympics games for supporting their team because they are just hooligans.
The other group who wouldn’t like to celebrate the Olympics game in their hometown can be maybe because if that happened the city would be full of works. The Olympics games are visited for many people and maybe some people don’t like to have their city collapsed, or they don’t like sport.
There is a special minority. The ones who do not care about the Olympic Games. They just continue doing their normal life as if nothing was happening until it finishes.

Gender Discrimination

The gender discrimination has been a polemic at the Olympic Games since they started and this isn´t exceeded yet.  Along the history of the modern Olympic Games women has been introduced in the various sports of the Olympic program. But it has also been an element of decoration for the competition.

Olympic committee includes that nobody can be discriminated because of gender, but it also giving more privileges to men's sport.

They have many complains, because Olympics has less than 10 percent of female representation.  The number of countries that hasn´t got female representation is being reduced. For example: In Sidney 2000, 9 countries hadn´t got female representation, in Athens 2004, six countries hadn´t got female representation and in Beijing 2008 there was an improve, more than 42 percent of representation were women.

Nowadays, only Arabian States don´t send women to these kinds of competitions. But it can be the first time; The Organization of the Olympic Games is thinking about the idea of allowing women to participate at London´s 2012. But Saudi Arabia persuade in their idea of ban women in the competition, the reply of people was: ‘We do not wan´t Saudi Arabia at London 2012’

Saudi Arabia, Quatar and Brunei never sent a woman to the Olympics. Only three countries along the competition. They have a special religious and beliefs, that could be the reason why they don´t send women.  But this hasn´t justification and it will change through the time.

Cheat at the Olympics

Spanish basketball team with disabilities won in 2000 the gold medal in the Paralympics games of Sidney. But some time later the judges discovered that some of the Spanish basketball team with disabilities weren’t disabled. The one who told the judges that 10 of the 12 member of the team didn’t suffered any disability was a journalist who was all time with the team during the competition.

The judges disqualified the Spanish team, the judges notice that it was very difficult to prove if someone was mental disabled or not, so they decided to stop doing the Olympic games of basketball for mental disabled people. One of the players of the Spanish team confessed that they weren’t the only team that plays with not disabled people. He said that in swimming, some athletes and ping pong too.

Ancient and Modern Olympic Games

The ancient Olympic Games were a part of a religious festival in honor of Zeus. The festival and the games were held in Olympia, a rural sanctuary site in the western Peloponnesos.

The first recorded Olympic competition occurred in 776 B.C. It had only one event, the one-stade (approximately 630-foot or 192-meter) race, which was won by a cook named Coroebus. This was the start of the first Olympiad, the four-year period by which the Greeks recorded their history.

Athletic competition became so important to the Greeks that the Olympic festivals were a peaceful influence.

All athletes were required to take an oath that they would observe all the rules and standards. Although, the luxurious facilities offered to athletes, all had to remain amateurs. That is, they had to pay their own expenses, and they could receive no monetary awards.

The most famous athlete of the Ancient Games was Milo of Croton, who lived in the 500 B.C. He won the wrestling crown six times.

The first Modern Olympic Games ocurred in April 1896, attracted athletes from the United States, Great Britain, and 11 other nations. Only 42 events in 9 sports were scheduled for these games.

The Olympic Games scheduled for Berlin in 1916 were cancelled because of World War I; those scheduled for 1940 and 1944 were cancelled because of World War II.

The games of 1904 had little international significance because most of the participants were from the United States, more and more nations have entered teams in the Olympics. The of participating athletes has grown, from the 285 who competed at Athens in 1896 to approximately 10,600 who competed in Barcelona in 1992.

The values of the modern Olympic Games are:

Respect – fair play; knowing one’s own limits; and taking care of one’s health and the environment
Excellence – how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one’s own objectives
Friendship – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences

The different sports which will be played at the Olympic Games are:
